| ABSTRACT:
Introduction: Over the past few years, there has been a change in how eye care professionals look at glaucoma. Not too long ago, a diagnosis of glaucoma only required that the patient have elevated intraocular pressure (IOP). That belief that has evolved as we have obtained a better understanding of this disease. We now define glaucoma as a progressive optic neuropathy, with characteristic optic nerve changes and progressive retinal ganglion cell loss. Five ÒpearlsÓ summarize the optimal management for patients with glaucoma. |
