TITLE Contemporary View of Age-Related Macular Degeneration
ABSTRACT: This course deals with several issues relating to age-related macular degeneration (AMD), including its prevalence, risk factors, etiology, and various forms. Age-related macular degeneration (AMD) is the leading cause of vision loss and legal blindness among those over 50 years of age in the Western world. While no definitive treatment exists, recent studies have revealed new information regarding prevention of vision loss related to AMD. This course reviews the results of recently published studies and provides an update on nutritional, lifestyle modification, surgical, medical and genetic approaches which may aid in preventing vision loss from AMD.  Author(s): Michael D.
