TITLE: Low Vision Management of the Patient with Age-Related Maculopathy

ABSTRACT: This course will specifically focus on the low vision assessment and management of patients with ARM. Demographics will be described with respect to type and stage of ARM and the most common presenting problems will be reviewed. This course presents a method for assessing reading potential and required magnification based on reading fluency, print size and equivalent viewing power. The rehabilitation of three common presentations of ARM will be presented. The importance of lighting, the impact of reduced contrast sensitivity and the role of eccentric viewing training will be discussed. The most commonly used devices for reading and other important tasks, for people ARMD will be presented.
