TITLE What You Should Know About FCLCA
ABSTRACT: The federal Fairness to Contact Lens Consumers Act (FCLCA) took effect February 4, 2004. You can find the full text of the law at Although the new law isn't perfect, it helps standardize contact lens prescription release laws across the states and it provides a significant start for enforcing contact lens sales to only those who have a valid prescription. Two key points exist that practitioners who fit and/or sell lenses must know. First, practitioners must provide a copy of the contact lens prescription to the patient at the conclusion of a fitting. Second, contact lens sellers may sell lenses only to patients who have a valid prescription.  Author(s): Lisa Badowski, OD, MS, FAAO
