| ABSTRACT:
The federal Fairness to Contact Lens Consumers Act (FCLCA) took effect February 4, 2004. You can find the full text of the law at http://thomas.loc.gov. Although the new law isn't perfect, it helps standardize contact lens prescription release laws across the states and it provides a significant start for enforcing contact lens sales to only those who have a valid prescription. Two key points exist that practitioners who fit and/or sell lenses must know. First, practitioners must provide a copy of the contact lens prescription to the patient at the conclusion of a fitting. Second, contact lens sellers may sell lenses only to patients who have a valid prescription. |
