| ABSTRACT:
Refractive surgery errors and complications are rare. But when unexpected refractive surgery results do occur, they may represent a significant loss to your patients, and patients will experience grief. In turn, optometrists may struggle with how to work with these patients because grief counseling is typically not part of their care. To that end, this course educates optometrists by describing such a patient’s stages of grieving and adjustment during the postoperative period. This course also provides model dialogue to serve as an example of how to address the patient’s concerns. |
