| ABSTRACT:
Diabetic retinopathy (DR) is the leading cause of new blindness among American adults. This course educates optometrists on how to diagnose, counsel and otherwise manage patients with diabetic retinopathy. This course discusses the basic epidemiology and pathophysiology of diabetic retinopathy, the various manifestations of DR, the recently proposed international classification scheme for DR, standard management and follow-up protocols, as well as new pharmacologic therapies for both the prevention and treatment of DR. |
