| ABSTRACT:
Allergies, the sixth leading cause of chronic disease in the United States, affect more than 50 million Americans. Estimates of the prevalence of allergic rhinoconjunctivitis in the United States range from 8.6% to 16%. Because allergic disease is a significant cause of morbidity, affecting the quality of life of many individuals, you must be vigilant in diagnosing and treating patients who have allergies. This course educates optometrists about the pathophysiology of allergic eye disease and discusses classification of allergic conjunctivitis and available treatment. |
