| ABSTRACT:
This course discusses the importance of developing a new paradigm in contact lens practice, reflecting the relatively newly-emergent reality of SiHy lenses on the North American market. This includes the prevalent use of SiHy lenses; their applicability to the patient population; their advantages compared to pHEMA lenses; and their differing characteristics from other types of lenses currently available. A discussion of the differences between various generations of SiHy lenses is also provided, as well as ways in which patient comfort can be optimized. Lens care and the newest generation of lens care solutions are reviewed. Various types of ocular infections, and the issue of lens-solution interaction are presented. |
