| ABSTRACT:
Understanding the factors that are clinically important for glaucoma, the basic glaucoma examination, and evidence-based practical guidelines for its management can increase the yield of detection and the efficiency of care. Glaucoma is a progressive optic neuropathy that damages retinal ganglion cells and other mechanisms in the visual pathway. The result is a loss of sensitivity, first in the peripheral vision and eventually central vision. Fortunately, our knowledge about the detection and management of glaucoma has increased tremendously. An understanding of the known factors that are clinically important for glaucoma, the basic glaucoma examination, and evidence-based practical guidelines for its management can increase the yield of detection and the efficiency of care. |
